Prevention Education
Our Programming & Development Coordinator plays an active role in the community, educating on domestic violence prevention. This position involves visiting elementary schools across Fond du Lac County to deliver grade-specific lessons on topics such as healthy emotional expression, setting and maintaining boundaries, positive friendships, effective communication, self-esteem, and personal safety. All lessons are reviewed and approved by School Boards and Counselors before the school year begins.
The role also leads In Their Shoes®, an experiential tool that teaches teens about dating violence by having them role-play real teen experiences and make decisions about relationships. This tool educates teens on healthy relationships and serves as a platform for facilitating discussions. Additionally, the Coordinator serves as an adult leader for Challenge Day, a transformative program that fosters acceptance, love, and respect among students and staff.
Newly trained in Green Dot Bystander Intervention, the Coordinator is equipped to empower individuals to prevent violence by taking action as bystanders, focusing on both proactive and reactive intervention to reduce power-based violence within communities.
In collaboration with partner organizations, the Coordinator facilitates healthy relationship groups for participants and staff at sites like the Fond du Lac Boys and Girls Club Johnsonville Site, Berry House Drop-In Center, and Fond du Lac County Juvenile Detention. They also hold support groups at our domestic violence shelter and work closely with SSM Health Domestic Violence Services and our Homeless Services Program. The Coordinator is available to give presentations for any organization and is always eager to engage with new partners—feel free to reach out!
Prevention education is vital to breaking the cycle of violence. By providing individuals with the knowledge and skills to build healthy relationships and set strong boundaries, we help restore hope for a future where everyone is treated with dignity and respect.
